What Size, प्लेअसे?

Say you go into a photo printing establishment and want to get some enlargements. You know you want something bigger than 4x6, but you really need a guide, a scale to see what larger sizes look like. Maybe 8x10 is big enough. 11x17? 20x24? Oh God, too many choices, I need to see a comparison.

The photo people are nice, they point you to a display, some wall where the same image is blown up to all the sizes they offer. The sample picture is always something like drippy fall foliage, a lighthouse, maybe a nice family. Apple pie, Chevrolet, etc...

Why any different in Nepal? You walk into the photo store and there's that wall with that same display of scale. And exactly what image were you expecting?

  1. Hi James and Sarah! I happened to stumble across your blog, and love it primarily because of the humorous uptake on things peculiar to Asia. It's now in my favourites bar. I thought I'd just let you know that the part you have inserted the Devnagari (or Hindi) script in the title for this one reads as "Play-a-say" instead of "Please" ( I guess that's what you originally intended it to read as. All the best!

    - that's how Google translate cheats you on phonetics as we found out with my son's French homework post which he came back soundly reprimanded by his French teacher! Hope this helps as I am what you could call technically challenged :)
