Shugaku-in Rikyu

It must be nice to be so wealthy that you can afford to build something defined as a "pleasure garden." Ask Emperor Go-mizuno o, who built Shugaku-in Rikyu in the late 1650's just for that purpose. The design of the garden is famous for its "borrowed scenery" technique, a style that relies heavily on what the landscape already features. Hey, less work for the earth movers.

Heading in.

One view of the garden and a lovely set of stairs. The setting does feel natural, but the upkeep is pristine.

Looking beyond a couple of the pavilions, nature - a perfect backdrop.

How does the place look so good? There are trimmers among us. And ninja gardeners, too!
