The Village Of Eisiskes, Lithuania

If you've been to the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC, you may remember one of the more moving exhibits, a soaring room filled with family photos, all from one small European village. The room illustrates how the Germans and their collaborators wiped out whole Jewish communities, their rich, varied, lives. Here's a photo of the exhibit.

Where's the village, where did all those lovely families live? Eisiskes, Lithuania. What does it look like today?

Town sign.

Town Hall.

The downtown area.

The end of the line for everything, trash and people, a cemetery in the background.

Hanging laundry, even in snow.

Alley and abandoned playground.

Green cube.

Next, a look at the Jewish mass grave sites.
