Visiting The Vienna State Opera (Staatsoper)

Vienna is synonymous with opera and you can't imagine the city without its iconic opera house. The building is worthy of the performances inside. Full of patina and history, the Staatsoper can put on its own show for those simply taking a quick tour. Like us.

The Staatsoper is a Neo-Renaissance structure completed in 1869. After suffering extensive damage from Allied bombing during WWII, most of the auditorium had to be rebuilt.

Inside, the grand lobby area, full of music-related frescos.

The old/new auditorium.

Seating and heading out to the lobby areas. You can see the modernist, understated finishes added in the rebuild.

Grand waiting room. Timeless, with TV.

Two more looks at lobby areas.

Chairs, having a quiet conversation.
