Gentrification comes to Bishkek

Rapid urban growth in Kyrgyzstan? The Soviet factories may have shut down after independence, but the nearby workers' neighborhoods are desirable places to live. It's all about location and one of the bigger areas formerly occupied by factory workers is close to the center of Bishkek.

One of the older houses, still with traditional wood details.

Old and new, building with wood, re-building with McMansion style.

Little tenant.

New and old, the McMansions crowding out the older houses (and live trees).

There's a small park in the center of the neighborhood. Trees, waiting for spring.
