Wandering Around Old Kuching

Some high-rise hotels and malls have staked their claim in the middle of decidedly low-rise old Kuching in the east Malaysian state of Sarawak. No worries, there are plenty of old neighborhoods to explore.

Shophouse architecture still dominates the old lanes, the typical three- or so story building with commerce on the bottom floor, living areas up top.

What's for sale? The usual staples and shop specialization.  Spices - any spelling - and fishing line, complete with abacus.
